AppTek GmbH is the German subsidiary of AppTek LLC with headquarter McLean, VA, USA. We are located right in the city center of Aachen, Theaterplatz. In close cooperation with researchers at RWTH Aachen University, we develop highly performant speech recognition and machine translation systems. AppTek has had many years of sustained organic growth which is now accelerating due to the strong demand of our B2B customers. We are seeking an Applied Scientist, Speech and Language.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Develop and improve on world-class automatic speech recognition (ASR) and/or machine translation (MT) systems, including speech translation systems
• In particular, develop and maintain ASR/MT systems for the Arabic language and its dialects • Apply Arabic language skills to customize existing ASR/MT systems for AppTek's customers
• Conduct objective quantitative benchmarking of our and competitive systems
Requirements:
• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Natural Language Processing/Computational Linguistics/Machine Learning (preferably focused on Speech Recognition and/or Machine Translation)
• 2+ years of professional experience
• Extensive experience of programming in Python
• Understanding of deep learning solutions such as neural encoder-decoder architectures An in-depth understanding of Pytorch and/or Tensorflow
• Experience with data preparation, training, and running deep learning or other statistical models in (cloud) cluster computing environments such as AWS, Azure or GCP
• Able to read, understand and implement solutions that are proposed in academic papers
• Fluent or native-level knowledge of the Arabic language
Desirable:
• Experience working in a commercial setting
• Knowledge of the differences between the dialects of Arabic
• Experience in other fields related to natural language processing or AI
Personal Skills:
• be able to work autonomously
• strong personal communication skills
• In addition to Arabic, fluent English is required, German is a plus
